Marigold has been used for years because of its multiple benefits. calendula marigolds contain many active constituents, including various antioxidants and volatile oils. These are responsible for the flowers’ bright color and strong smell; ability to repel certain fungi, pests and insects; and also, its capability of improving blood flow and controlling inflammation. 

Uses of Marigolds Calendula

Homemade Skin Treatment : Ointment can be used to soothe burns, warts, bites, acne and ulcerations, in addition to healing wounds, dry skin and blisters.

Digestive-Soothing Tea : Tea can be made with marigold flowers to lower symptoms caused by inflammatory bowel diseases/colitis. Marigold tea is also beneficial for treating gastritis, acid reflux and ulcers, as well as reducing stomach or menstrual cramps.

Immune-Boosting Formula: Marigold (calendula) drops or extract are sometimes used to manage symptoms of coughs, sore throats or fevers.

Infuse orange calendula petals in oil for massage oil, salves, creams and lotions. Add the petals directly to soaps for color contrast and texture. Include a hot water infusion of the petals when making natural shampoos and hair conditioners.

Place orange calendula petals in on a decorative dish or mason jar tied with homespun, perhaps with rosehips, rose petals, lavender buds and cinnamon chips.

Add orange calendula petals to tea blends, hot or cold. Sprinkle over omelets and quiche, soups, puddings and custards and green salads. Freeze in ice cube trays for cocktails, iced teas, lemonade and other beverages served cold. Cream the petals with butter and chopped fresh chives to make a compound butter for breads and rolls. Infuse the petals in honey for tea and toast.
